Girl’s Day: Empowering Young Females in Manufacturing

The first Girl’s Day took place on March 20th in VWATJ and attracted more than thirty female students from Tianjin Technician Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Technology.

Through plant tour, Dual Vocational Education (DVE) program introduction and former apprentices’ experience sharing, the young students developed a deeper understanding of the work and requirements of top manufacturing companies. Meanwhile, to offer more real production and learning experience, Component Education Academy organized a technical activity allowing students to build cool mini cars on their own. Besides, together with VWATJ professionals, the female talents had an in-depth exchange of views on overarching issues critical to their personal growth and career development.

VWATJ has initiated the DVE program with Tianjin Technician Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Technology since 2020. So far it has provided professional training for around 150 young talents, with female apprentices reaching 23%.

“At Volkswagen we believe in fostering diversity and empowering talents from all backgrounds. By investing in initiatives like this, we aim to attract more young talents, filling in the female talent pipelines at early stage with young generation,” said Anja Christmann, Head of ATJ HR, Organization & Education.
